There are plenty of high street brands that claim to champion body positivity by including a diverse range of women in their campaigns, but when it comes to catering to a wide range of body types, they fail to meet the mark. Is Monki one of them?
I’m a big fan of Monki’s unique range of statement clothing, and one thing I really like about shopping on the brand’s website is the fact they show how a garment will fit a range of bodies.

It’s so refreshing to see different women modelling a brand’s clothing so I can see how it will really fit my shape.
As well as Monki, more and more brands are making a similar move. Girlfriend Collective, a sustainable sportswear brand, show their activewear on a wide variety of shapes and sizes, while others like ASOS only opt to show pieces on either slim or plus-size models depending on the range in question.
But do these brands actually stock a variety of sizes?
Sometimes it feels like brands think your size doesn’t matter. Like, no matter how much you shop and how much you try, you can’t seem to find clothing that fits.
When you’re above the average dress size, the struggle to find the right size is all too real.
There is still an apparent lack of plus-sized options. Even when a brand says they offer inclusive sizes, they might only go up to a size XXL, failing to cater to many people who want decent clothes.

Does Monki have a plus-size range?
After scrolling through Monki’s website, it seems they don’t have a dedicated collection for plus-size women.
It’s not ideal, but many of their pieces are stretchy and/or oversized, so you might be able to make them work for you.

What size is L and XL at Monki?
The brand follows European standard sizes. Here’s how their sizing works:
- XXS (UK 4)
- XS (UK 6)
- S (UK 8/10)
- M (UK 12/14)
- L (UK 16/18)
- XL (UK 20/22)
- XXL (UK 24)
Their styles come in various fits: oversized, regular, and tight. In Monki terms, tight-fitting styles sit close to the body, and oversized items were designed to look baggy.

Which brands offer plus-size collections?
Some brands have always been committed to producing fashionable plus-size clothing. Size inclusivity is at the heart of brands like Simply Be, Loud Bodies & Evans, and Girlfriend Collective. They have sizes ranging from 4XL to UK 32 and 6XL.
Other high-street brands like Mango, New Look, Anthropologie and Oasis also have extended sizes. ASOS is another popular brand offering size-inclusive options, with over 7,500 items in their plus-size collections.
