To complete your foundational wardrobe, it’s essential to have a collection of excellent shirts at your disposal. Trust me when I say that ASOS is the place to go.
Not only is the selection colossal (I literally scrolled through 4,000 to find these), but the delivery is free. And if you have premier, you can get next day delivery for just £10 per year.
I don’t know about you, but one of my life’s greatest pleasures is eagerly awaiting the arrival of my packages and watching as the courier delivers them (and yep, it’s usually an ASOS package coming to my door).
So let’s talk shirts. There are five things you should always consider when buying a shirt: fit, fabric, style, versatility and care.
What should you look for when buying a shirt?
Firstly, a well-fitting shirt is crucial. It should follow the natural lines of the body without being too tight or loose. The shirt’s shoulders should align with your own, and the sleeves should end at your wrist bone when your arms are relaxed by your sides.
Consider also the length of the shirt, ensuring it’s long enough to be tucked in comfortably and that it’s not too short so it rides up at even the slightest stretch.
Then fabric has the ability to make an outfit look expensive or cheap. Look for high-quality fabrics that feel soft, breathable, and durable, and these will be comfortable too.
Perhaps the most important element though is style (for me anyway). Whatever your aesthetic, find a shirt that matches it whether that’s minimalist, smart or sporty.
Versatility fits in with this. Only buy items that you can wear with a variety of different items in your wardrobe. I always try to think of around 5 things I can team with a new purchase to make sure it’s something worth buying.
The last but not least, I pick items that are easy to care for unless they’re really special pieces. If it ain’t machine washable, it ain’t getting washed so this is essential for me. When it comes to shirts, try to find wrinkle-resistant styles for ease.
