Tu at Sainsburys Launches Bridal Collection For The Thrifty Bride

Now you can get a wedding dress for just £22

Last Updated on September 24, 2023

Tu at Sainsburys has launched its first ever bridal collection, allowing thrifty couples to tie the knot without spending a fortune. The collection offers a wedding outfit for every bride, with a sleek cowl neck slip dress, crisp white bridal suit and simple V-neck plisse dress up for grabs, as well as a selection of beautiful bridal lingerie.

While many brides spend upwards of £1,000 on their wedding gown, Tu at Sainsburys are offering bridal outfits from just £10. The budget gowns are available in sizes 8 to 24, and while the collection is small with just two dresses available right now, the brand is set to release even more over the coming weeks.

Emma Benjafield, director of product at Tu, said of the launch: “We’re always focused on meeting our customers’ evolving needs and we know that many are looking for affordable, classic styles for wedding events. We know that for a lot of our customers, money is tight right now.”

It comes at a good time. The cost of living has increased exponentially in recent years, with rising food and energy prices hitting UK households the hardest. Food prices rose by 19.2% in the year to March 2023, the highest rate seen in over 45 years, and in the year to October 2022, prices of consumer goods and services rose by the fastest rate in 40 years at 9.6%.

And we all know how expensive weddings are. Following the pandemic, the average wedding spend increased by 15% to an all-time high of £19,184 in 2022 (or £24,069, including the ring and honeymoon), according to Bridebook. In the same year, the wedding dress set the bride back by £1,424 on average.

But if you haven’t got £1,500 to play with, Tu at Sainsburys is a great option. They’re the only supermarket to offer bridal gowns, and at just £22 for a dress, they’re by far the cheapest available. Many high street brands now offer wedding dresses at around the £200 mark too, like ASOS, Karen Millen, Coast and Whistles, and you can get wedding dresses from mid-range labels including Rixo and Reformation at around £500.
