If you’re looking for the best autumn jackets in 2023, you’ve come to the right place. I’ve found a selection of new season outerwear that’s perfect for the awkward transitional period between summer and fall, from your favourite high street labels such as Zara, H&M, ASOS, Mango and more. While autumn is a little while away, the temperature is about to change and it’ll soon be time to pack away our tank tops, linen dresses and summer sandals and switch to cold-weather staples, starting with outerwear.
Along with pumpkin spice lattes, shorter days and cosy nights in, we’re also about to welcome in some of our trusty winter favourites, like cosy knits, chunky boots and perhaps the most important of all: outerwear. Your autumn jackets will come everywhere with you in the next couple of months, so it’s worth finding a jacket that you can rely on.
Some people like shoes, for others it’s bags, but my obsession is with outerwear. I’ve been doing my research and I’ve found a small but mighty selection of autumn jackets, including bombers, quilted and leather jackets to bring in the new season with style.
In case you need a little more inspiration for how to dress in the new season, check out our trend report for AW23’S biggest fashion trends and where to shop them on the high street. Now, onto the main event—autumn outerwear.

What jackets are in style for fall 2023?
As someone who loves layering, my favourite season is definitely autumn. It’s fun to dress up and be creative with coats, jackets, and blazers in different materials, prints, and styles. However, always keep in mind that regardless of the season, practicality and versatility should be on your priority list to ensure that you are making a wise investment.
For AW23, the biggest jacket trends we’re seeing coming through are definitely bombers, oversized blazers, moto jackets, denim jackets and cropped styles.
Best Jackets for Fall 2023

Collared TRF Denim Bomber Jacket, £49.99, Zara – buy now
Spotted on the Simone Rocha and Eudon Choi AW23 runways, bomber jackets are a great option for a laid-back, cool girl look. For something a little bit different, we love this collared bomber from Zara. Team it with jeans for a unique take on double denim.

Oversized Bomber Jacket, £45.50, Topshop – buy now
You’re about to see a whole lot more of red in the new season, so get in there early with this oversized bomber from Topshop. Pair it with a silky slip dress or the classic white tee and denim for a dressed-down look.

Coated Bomber Jacket, £39.99, H&M – buy now
If you’re looking for a jacket with a little bit of edge, H&M’s coated bomber in leather look could be the autumn jacket for you. It works just as well with a floral dress as it does with jeans and chunky boots.

Massimo Dutti Cropped Wool Blend Trench Coat, £169 – buy now
Whether it’s a classic long line or cropped, you will never go wrong with a trench coat for fall. Try spicing it up with different materials, like wool or bold colours, to create more dimension in your outfit.

Quilted Reversible Jacket, £89.99, Mango – buy now
Another classic is the quilted jacket, but this floral style from Mango offers a softer, more feminine take on the style. It’s also reversible, so you can get two jackets for the price of one!

Quilted Coat, £295, Ganni – buy now
Alternatively opt for a quilted jacket that goes with absolutely everything, like this beautiful style from Ganni. With an oversized collar and bow detail, it manages to blende both feminine and androgynous fashion.

Curve Faux Leather Oversized Biker Jacket, now £51, Topshop – buy now
Topshop is always my go-to when it comes to outerwear, and this sage green leather biker jacket ticks so many boxes. Sage is another colour of the season for AW23, while the style is timeless.

Cropped Pea Coat, £165, & Other Stories – buy now
When it comes to autumn dressing, an elevated wool coat is a must-have. This beautiful cropped style from & Other Stories is completely timeless, meaning it will pair well with items already found in your wardrobe and will continue to do so for years to come. It’s also really warm, which is exactly what you need to avoid the shock of the new season chill.

Ingrid Wool Jacket Vase Print, £125, Damson Madder – buy now
It doesn’t get much warmer than a fleece jacket now, does it? Damson Madder’s latest collection has well and truly stolen my heart, and this printed jacket with bow details is top of the list.

Denim jackets never go out of style. Like many of the jackets we’ve selected on this list, it teams well with almost everything too.
