Nobody does it like Coco Chanel. The iconic designer, who passed away in 1971, changed fashion forever when she designed the instantly recognisable tweed suit that’s now synonymous with the brand.
A cardigan-jacket inspired by sporting fashion for men was first introduced into the designer’s collection in 1925, before she introduced tweed in 1954 and designed the famous jacket without lapels or a collar.
The OG design has inspired so many fashion brands today to design a similar jacket at a much more affordable price point. It’s still as chic, effortless and sophisticated as it ever was, so it’s unlikely these will be out of style anytime soon.
Chanel still designs the tweed jacket of course, but they don’t come cheap. This orange and ecru tweed jacket from the designer costs over £6,000.
But if you want to get the look, it’s definitely achievable no matter your budget. My favourite brand ever Sister Jane often designs beautiful tweed two-pieces, while high street heroes like Zara, Mango and Karen Millen do tweed jackets too.

What type of tweed does Chanel use?
According to Fashion Phile, Chanel uses tweed made at Paris’ Maison Lesage atelier.
This is handwoven, rather than made by machine – hence the high price point.
Why is tweed so expensive?
The reason for tweed’s expense is because it’s a pure wool cloth. As mentioned, Chanel’s Lesage tweed is handwoven, but high street and more affordable brands often use blended materials.

Unlike many designer bags, Chanel’s often increase in value due to their exclusivity, making it one of the best designer handbags to invest in.
