It might not be for everybody, but if you’re a fan of granny chic, you’ll love crochet.
After the pandemic saw a surge in DIY and homemade fashion, interest for the technique and style grew – leading to the trend making a comeback for summer 2021.
But it’s not just the crafty amongst us who have embraced the hippy look. It’s been given the luxury fashion seal of approval as Bottega Veneta, Valentino and Fendi showcased a variety of colourful crochet pieces in their SS21 shows, while celebrities FKA Twigs, Kendall Jenner, Harry Styles and Bella Hadid have been spotted wearing it too.

Meanwhile Ella Emhoff, Kamala Harris’ stepdaughter, is also a fan of the look. The designer regularly showcases her very own granny square garments on Instagram (although bad luck if you wanted to buy one, as her commissions are currently closed) and her followers love it.
Fashion is also becoming more experimental, creative and colourful as we venture out of lockdown. After packing away our loungewear, we’re all ready to get dressed up and try out bold combinations, different textures and prints – so what better way to do so than adding a bit of crochet to your wardrobe?
If you’re a fan of 70s style, you’ll love these tops we’ve found from Mango, Zara, Free People and more. If you want to really go for it, some of these even come as co-ords.
