It seems absolutely ludicrous that I’m already thinking about autumn fashion when the sun is shining so brightly in the UK, but as is always the case with fashion, thinking ahead is key.
I’ve become accustomed to planning my winter wardrobe when the idea of wearing a coat couldn’t feel further away, and dare I say it but I’m actually excited about the change in season this year.

I’m not wishing summer away, but it’s fair to say the new season’s fashion is going to be a welcome arrival – particularly when it comes to jackets.

Some of AW22’s biggest trends involve the outerwear piece in different varieties. After the trend brewing over the past few seasons, it’s safe to say that the bomber jacket will finally get its time in the spotlight this year. You can read more about in our AW22 trend report.
Then there’s the biker trend, which certainly isn’t exclusive to boots this season. Aviator and tough leathers will add some edge to outfits this winter.
If neither of those resonate, keep reading for 5 of AW22’s biggest jacket trends.

Leather blazers

I feel like a broken record whenever I mention the resurgence of 90s and Y2K style, but it’s hard not to when talking about the leather blazers trend.
This style is one of the easiest to wear, not least because you probably already own one. Team with jeans like Clara Holmes (above), pictured at London Fashion Week in February.

If there’s one trend to adopt, it’s the bomber. Another retro style to make a re-appearance, this one is versatile.
Whether you prefer muted tones or want to go bold in a bright hue, this one works for pretty much everybody.
Need inspiration? Look to Versace, Dior, Marni and Balmain, all of whom championed the style on the runway.

Oversized blazers

If there’s one trend I’m planning to wear when winter arrives, it’s the oversized blazer.
I’ve always been a fan of oversized fashion, not least because it’s so comfortable, but it was Valentino’s hot pink suit that sold it to me this year.

Bikers

Biker isn’t just a jacket, it’s a lifestyle – but I’ll probably just stick to the fashion.
The trend for biker chic isn’t limited to jackets, but if you want to dip your toe into the trend, a leather jacket is the easiest way to do so. I’m obsessed with Alexander McQueen’s cropped biker (pictured).

Aviators

Aviators are back as well, but did they ever really disappear?
It’s another version of the biker, with a more exaggerated silhouette.
London Fashion Week attendees embraced it wholeheartedly, with faux fur trims and suede iterations being spotted on the streets.
