The last time I remember ballet flats being a thing was back in the noughties, when the likes of Kate Moss, Sienna Miller and Amy Winehouse were pictured wearing theirs almost every day.
The news that the trend is on its way back has come as a bit of a shock to many. Do we really need to dig them out again?

Obviously if you’re not into the trend, the answer is no – but I might be about to convince you.

They glided their way down the AW22 runways time and time again, most notably at Miu Miu, Chanel and Molly Goddard, and now celebrities like Alexa Chung are wearing them once again.
This time around skinny jeans are no where to be seen. Instead, Miu Miu teamed their delicate satin pink ballet pumps with thick woollen socks (and so did Alexa, pictured above) and tulle skirts.
Chanel, whose ballet flats have never not been a celebrated cult-status item, also teamed theirs with colourful woollen tights and mini skirts. Adorable.
So if you want to dip a toe into the trend, why not start small? I’ve found 13 pairs for less than £50 to get you started.
