Looking for a new perfume for autumn winter 2023? Here’s my roundup of the best fragrances to have on your radar for the new season. If you’re anything like me, you’ll find yourself needing to change up your perfume with the start of each new season. As well as embracing chunky sweaters and general winter coziness, I want a new scent to match.
Some fragrances are timeless, but others smell way more autumnal than others. In the summer I love nothing more than the zingy citruses and fresh florals of a summer fragrance but as soon as the cooler weather hits, its officially time for me to swap out to a winter staple that offers a little bit of comfort and warmth.
I have a few firm favourites that I go back to again and again. Dior’s Hypnotic poison has always been my signature scent for autumn, with its blend of contrasting facets: bitter almond, jasmine sambac, vanilla and sensual musks.
But I do like to try a new fragrance every now and then and the new season is the perfect time to do so. There are some smells that work well in the colder months, such as woody, smoky or amber based scents with warm notes such as warm vanilla, tobacco or creamy musk, or warm spices such as cardamom and cinnamon.
If you struggle to pick your winter scent, take your time. Fragrances can be pricey, so make sure to try before you buy. It can sometimes feel like all the perfumes smell the same when you go into a store to try them so if you’re unsure, ask for a sample so you can take it home and see if you actually like the scent over time. Spritz it on your wrists for a few days before you make the jump.
I do have some personal recommendations though, so keep scrolling for the very best fall fragrances out there. Think rich aromas of autumn, be it a warm vanilla, a warming spice or winter-ready wood. Next, read how to make your fragrances last longer, the best perfumes from Zara and these gorgeous scents that smell like coconut.
