The Best Glossier Products for Acne, According to Reddit

Bye, acne. Hello, glow.

Last Updated on November 18, 2022

Since Glossier’s makeup products don’t offer particularly high coverage, the brand has developed a reputation for supposedly catering to people who don’t have wrinkles, dark spots or acne. Basically, perfect skin.

But if you take a closer look at its skincare selection, you’ll see that it offers plenty of products for those who are battling pimples – and according to Reddit, they work.

In the dedicated subreddit for Glossier, acne-sufferers offered their advice for the best products they used to banish their mild acne and sooth their scars.

One user writes, ‘Solution helped me with my breakouts,’ and another adds, ‘Definitely the solution, and if your skin leans oily then I HIGHLY recommend the Super Pure with priming moisturizer balance! I use both every morning and my skin has gotten so clear.’

Solution is an exfoliating skin perfector, which contains three acid groups: Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA), Beta Hydroxy Acid (BHA), and Polyhydroxy Acid (PHA).

It’s recommended for daily use and is vegan and cruelty-free too.

Of course, one product that came up time and time again was Glossier’s Milky Jelly Cleanser, which has been praised for clearing up skin in countless reviews, as well as Futuredew.

Possibly the most positive review of all came from one user, who uses both Futuredew and Solution. She wrote, ‘After showering and washing my face I started using the solution at night and after allowing it to really soak in and dry I would apply the Futuredew. I also apply Futuredew in the morning just not as much.

‘THE RESULTS! I can not stress it enough how much I love these two products. My face got so much smoother, my whiteheads are nonexistent and my nose blackheads are barely noticeable. My face is literally G L O W I N G! Everything is just smoothed out and clean, my weird cyst under my skin has decreased in size dramatically and is almost gone! Im so surprised but so ecstatic about these products.’

Another recommends the Super Pure Serum, which has niacinamide that promotes skin clarity. ‘Super pure has helped me with clogged pores and cane scars! I’ve only been using it for 3 weeks but I see some changes.’

The brand also recently introduced the After Baume Moisture Barrier Recovery Cream. You’re more prone to breakouts when your skin barrier is compromised, so strengthening it is a must. The brand calls it ‘a puffer jacket for your skin’ because it envelops the skin with moisture and soothing.

The jury is still out on whether it’s great for acne-prone folks, but if you need a bit of help to calm your skin, this one’s awarded the seal of acceptance by the US’s National Eczema Association.

How to address acne-prone skin

When we get a pimple, the first thing we want to do is to accelerate its drying. I’m sure you’ve tried a hack or two to get rid of it ASAP, from using a drying solution to icing your skin.

The best way to zap a zit, though, as frustrating as it may sound, is to be patient and follow a routine. We’ve all heard of how good things take time, and believe it or not. It applies to acne too.

You’ll want to take care of your entire face, not just zero in on the zits. But what should you look for?

First, a gentle cleanser. Spots are enflamed, so you wouldn’t want to expose your skin to ingredients that can irritate it further.

Even though the cleanser doesn’t stay too long on your skin, it should still be one of the most important products in your routine. Can you imagine putting on a clean sheet over a musty bed? Well, that’s what it’s like when you don’t cleanse your skin properly.

Once you’ve got that covered, look for an exfoliant. You want to help your skin’s cell turnover process — this is the part that helps heal and dry up the pimple fast.

But don’t leave it dry; moisturising and hydrating are a must. A hydrating serum is great because it offers a targeted solution. Cap it off with a moisturiser to help keep your skin in a healthy state — perfect for pimple healing.

During the day, make sure you put on sunscreen, so your dried-up acne doesn’t turn into hyperpigmentation! Treating acne scars is a whole different story!

What to avoid for acne-prone skin?

When you have acne, you want to find the right skincare products that can help reduce inflammation and prevent future breakouts.

The best way to do this is by using targeted treatments that target the root cause of your acne instead of just treating the symptoms.

Another is knowing what ingredients you should avoid. This will help with long-term results as well as minimize new breakouts in the future.

Here are skincare ingredients to avoid:

  • Synthetic Perfumes
  • Coconut Oil
  • Sodium Lauryl Sulfate
  • Alcohol
  • Silicone
