If you’re a fan of gingham but want to move away from predictable printed sun dresses for summer, you’ll be glad to know that gingham trousers are on the rise.
Gingham dresses might be a timeless wardrobe staple, but Instagram girls are embracing the print from head-to-toe in 2021 and wearing the check print on their trousers.
It had a resurgence in 2016, featuring heavily on cute sun dresses, trench coats and even shoes. This summer, it’s emerging once again with a modern twist. Tailored trousers offer a sophisticated yet fun look that Instagram girls including Lindsey Isla, Sara Waiste and Nnena Echem can’t get enough of.

It’s not just influencers that are wearing the much-loved print; celebrities have been rocking it for years. Princess Diana wore a pair of adorable pink gingham trousers in 1986, while Alexa Chung, Kendall Jenner and Holly Willoughby have been spotted wearing the pretty pattern on their trousers too. Designers such as Tory Burch, Altuzarra, and Staud have also embraced gingham in their designs for spring summer 2021.
The high street, small businesses and slow fashion labels have adopted the trend to create a selection of beautiful gingham pants for those hoping to move away from the predictable girly dresses. By Megan Crosby offers made to order multicoloured gingham lounge pants, while Zara, ASOS and Monki have branched into the trend too.
If all-over gingham feels a bit much, I’ve found an incredible brand on Depop who upcycle denim jeans with dripped gingham pockets for a more subtle approach to the trend and they’re surprisingly affordable.
