Chunky boots with lug soles were one of last winter’s most popular shoes, and they’re back again for AW21.
They say trends come and go, but some stick around much longer than others.
This is certainly the case when it comes to lug soles, which emerged a few seasons ago with Bottega Veneta’s Lug leather ankle boots and Ganni’s calf leather pair, inspiring a wave of women to ditch their dainty pairs in favour for chunkier styles.
The Autumn Winter 2021 shows saw lug sole boots stomping down the catwalks time and time again, appearing at Stella McCartney, 3.1 Phillip Lim, Ganni, Loewe and many more and simultaneously proving they’re going absolutely no where this year.
While chunky ankle boots are a wardrobe staple, they’ve been updated recently with rubber, knee-high and rain boots emerging at every turn.
But the thick rubber soles in question haven’t just been appearing on boots. Loafers from Prada, Chanel and Gucci are ultra-chunky too, a look which has translated well on the high street.
Meanwhile chunky boots have also started dropping ahead of the change in season, making it the perfect time to make your choices before they sell out later down the line.
I’ve found the best lug pair boots that have already dropped, with chunky pairs from ASOS, GANNI, Arket, Mango, Zara and more.
