These Boots Don’t Just Protect Your Feet From The Rain, They’re One of AW21’s Trending Styles

Style staples, for sure.

Last Updated on November 20, 2021

If you never thought of rain boots as style staples, you’re bound to change your mind this year.

Thanks to Bottega Veneta’s Puddle boots, which debuted in February 2020 for the brand’s showcase at Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2020-2021, we’re seeing rain boots beyond utilitarian or cutesy (duck prints, anyone?).

Daniel Lee’s masterpiece is a mix of comfort, futurism and playfulness. It’s no wonder the pair has been favoured by everyone — from top model Rosie Huntington-Whitely to pop superstar Justin Bieber.

The Puddle boots aren’t the only rain boots vying for your attention this season, though. There are quite a number of designer picks you definitely will want to check out.

While BV’s pair is flat and chunky, Chloe’s has heels and is more slender but just as fun-looking. Over at Ganni, the pieces are just as colourful and have lug soles that are on-trend right now.

But, of course, the high street is more than ready to give us rubber boots at friendlier price points.

I found that Arket has a similar style to Bottega Veneta’s and comes in various bright colours. The pairs have extra cushioning too, courtesy of their in-built insock. Protected from puddles and comfortable? Your feet definitely will be in these pairs.

Zara is ready to cater to our rubber boot needs for the season too. But as is expected of the brand, the pairs it offers are on the sleeker and more classic side. Still fun to wear around, though.

ASOS is at it too, of course. There’s a pair of chunky Chelsea rain boots from the giant e-tailer that’s in a unique shade of orangey tan — perfect for autumn.

Bikini aside, Hailey Bieber’s Superga pair look like a good contender for the best-looking rubber boots category. The style is similar to the trending lug sole boots and has the brand’s logo at the back in a cute, non-tacky way. I like!

The best thing about these rain boots is that they’ve become sleeker and more versatile, veering away from just being utilitarian. So you can definitely pair them with just about any type of look you want to go for in the winter. A dress and coat combo? Sure. A jeans and top with heavy layering situation? Why not?

Ready to add rubber boots to your winter wardrobe? Take a look at more of my picks.
