Maybe it’s because we can finally go out now, but I’ve started to ditch my sweatpants and co-ords. I’m ready for jeans now and Zara’s have caught my eye recently (as well as everything else in their New In section).

Jeans are a tricky item to purchase. It often takes a long time to find the right size and fit, so if you’re ordering online, it’s always a good idea to order a couple of sizes to try at home if you can.

Zara’s jeans sizes run small and some are prone to stretching. One hot tip is to stick to those that are 100% cotton and size up. If you don’t know your size, Wear Next’s nifty guide to working out denim sizing will help you find out. You can find it here.

If you need help in shopping for Zara pieces specifically — they can be quite confusing, tbh — here’s our guide on how to figure out what Zara labels mean. Yes, those shapes actually have meaning!

Fortunately, Zara jeans seem to last a long time despite being much more affordable than premium denim brands — definitely under the usual £150 mark for premium brand jeans. Of course, I recommend taking good care of them and not washing them too often. You can also read more about how to care for your denim here to ensure it has a long life and you get more bang for your buck.

This season, denim is slouchy and relaxed as we continue to move away from restrictive fits, the minimalist aesthetic and neutral tones. It’s clear to see in Zara’s denim section, where the jeans come in bright block colours and retro prints — perfect for autumn and winter because these seasons are all about brights and maximalism. (P.S. You can read more of our autumn-winter trend report here.)

The Spanish label is also offering an abundance of wide-leg, paper bag, flared and mom jeans. If you’re a jeans hater, you’ll be swayed by how comfortable they are. As we all know, skinny jeans are out (thanks to Gen Z peeps). After more than a year of wearing everything baggy and comfy, we just don’t see ourselves wearing anything else — even when it comes to jeans.

I’ve looked up the best pairs to get from Zara now and these are my favourites.
