I’m all about reusing and reworking items in your wardrobe. There’s no need to spend money needlessly, and with so many trends coming and going, not all of them are going to make the cut.

But if you’re in the market for a new dress this season, make it the cut out dress.

We saw the trend time and time again on the AW21 runway, with designers such as Givenchy, David Koma, Temperley, Halpern, Off-White and Emilia Wickstead embracing gowns with slices missing from the sides, backs and shoulders of the garment to reveal a hint of skin.

It didn’t take long for stars to follow suit, with Hailey Bieber, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Kim Kardashian embracing the trend wholeheartedly.

It’s an easy way to show some skin without freezing to death in the cold weather, making it ideal for party season.

The cut out dress can also be worn day-to-day, as some styles are less extreme than others.

I don’t recommend wearing Kim’s barely there vintage Mugler gown to work, but subtle slashes add a touch of effortless elegance that work whether you’re popping to the shops or celebrating at the work Christmas party.

The cut out piece has been around for some time, but it’s going no where fast. If you’ve been waiting to see how long-lasting the trend would be before joining in, here’s your sign to get involved.

I’ve found a selection of cut out dresses to suit every budget, from Cult Gaia, & Other Stories, Zara and more.
