Coat Trend 1 – The LBC (Long Black Coat)
The LBC is a coat that should be found in everyone’s wardrobe; it’s chic, versatile and will literally last forever. It will be the hardest working piece you buy this season, taking you from the daily commute to Saturday night drinks. There is no where this coat won’t work.
How to wear it
The beauty of the long black coat is that it can work with anything. Add it to a jeans and trainers outfit for a cool off duty look, or pair with an autumn dress and heels when you feel like dressing up. Look for longline styles that almost sweep the floor.

Coat Trend 2 – The Chequered Coat
Chequered coats were another trend we saw at Dior and Wickstead for autumn winter 2023, bringing a sigh of relief to print lovers who swerve simple styles like the aforementioned LBC. That said, they can be just as sophisticated.
How to wear it
Chequered coats can be a great way to mix prints or add some texture to your outfit. Team with a contrasting print or if you want to keep things simple, wearing yours with a knit dress, tights and boots offers the perfect cosy yet stylish look.

Coat Trend 3 – The Leather Trench
This practical-yet-chic leather outerwear can be traced back all the way to the ’90s, thanks at least in part to Trinity’s cyber chic look from The Matrix and Carrie Bradshaw’s eccentric jacket choices in Sex And The City. Everyone from Drew Barrymore to Reese Witherspoon embraced it the first time round, and now A-listers like Zendaya, Kylie Jenner and Bella Hadid have backed the comeback of this 90’s biker chick trend too. But what exactly makes it so appealing? Simple: it’s classic, cool and easy to style.
How to wear it
It may look intimidating at first, but the winning combo of a classic coat shape with an edgy material like leather (or PU leather) will elevate any ensemble. Wear with a pair of jeans for a 90s look.

Coat Trend 4 – The Scarf Coat
What I love most about this trend is that it’s both stylish and cosy. The matching one piece is so effortless and chic, and it keeps you warm. The trend all started with Stockholm-based label Tôteme, who released a scarf-jacket hybrid that Instagram went wild for. The cult item sold out in a matter of days and ever since the high street has worked its magic with a huge variety of more affordable options.
How to wear it
Pair with a jeans and a pair of ballet flats for a casual yet cool look that will see you from day to night.

Coat Trend 5 – The Floor Sweeper
Coats are getting longer than ever this year to the point where they almost touch the floor as we walk. At Chanel and Givenchy, they became outfits in their own right. Look for tailored styles for a smarter take on the look, but anything goes. I love Chanel’s houndstooth coat, complete with a corsage.
How to wear it
This coat does all the talking, so there’s very little to think about when styling it. Do the coat up, giving just a glimpse of your shirt collar.

Faux Fur
The faux fur coat never goes out of style – and thank God because it’s probably the warmest of the lot. The proof was in the pudding, with faux fur worn at Gucci, Ferragamo, Max Mara, Ulla Johnson, Michael Kors, Zimmermann and Burberry in an array of colours. Real faux is a big no no because animal cruelty is never fashionable, people.
How to wear it
One of my favourite ways to style a faux fur coat is with a tonal look. If you’re wearing a brown coat, team it with pieces in a similar hue and the result will be a considered and chic look. You can wear it just as easily over an LBD and instantly look glamorous, or even with a shirt, jeans and boots. That’s why I love these so much – they’re really versatile.
