You Can Now Pre-Order Balenciaga's Towel Skirt For £695

We all know that Balenciaga is no stranger to controversy after that ad campaign, and now the designer has dropped a new skirt that is literally just a towel. The style in question looks strikingly similar to the fluffy bath towels currently sitting on your bathroom rack, but while they probably only cost a few quid, Balenciaga’s towel skirt comes in at a hefty £695 ($925).

Let’s take a closer look at what makes it so expensive. The unisex skirt in question is made from terry cotton (read: towel), offers a mid-rise, two buttons at the waistline to hold it in place, an adjustable buckle inside and the Balenciaga logo embroidered tone-on-tone on the front. It’s dry clean only because presumably if you can afford to buy a £625 towel skirt, you can afford a dry cleaning bill.

This is certainly not the first time Balenciaga has released an item of clothing that bears a striking resemblance to the day-to-day items you’ll find at home. Last year, the label released a trash bag and stuck a $2,570 price tag on it, as well as a pair of shoelace earrings for $261. Then there were the crocs heels, dirty trainers and an $1,150 toolbox bag that took the world by storm.

The latest in Balenciaga’s wacky designs made its debut at Demna Gvasalia’s Spring 2024 show in Paris this year and is now available to pre-order. If you order the towel skirt now, it will arrive no later than February 21st, 2024, giving you plenty of time to work out how to style it.
