It may seem like the biggest sales are over now that Black Friday and Cyber Monday have passed, but Boxing Day and January sales are actually a much better time to shop if saving money is your top priority.

While Black Friday is the biggest shopping day of the year, brands are more likely to be shifting their stock for ridiculously affordable prices after Christmas than before. It just makes sense.

So which ones should you be keeping an eye on and how big will the discounts be? Here are all the details.

When do the January sales start?

It varies depending on the brand, but it’s a good idea to pencil in Boxing Day (26 December) to start sales shopping as many brands participate and extend their deals throughout January.

There are some stores that hold their sales just before Christmas too, so it’s a good idea to check with your favourite brands for their schedules. Farfetch is already offering 30% off and free shipping.

Are the sales better in January?

Should you really wait for the January sales to shop?

Black Friday sales are great for discounts on new releases and beauty products, but if you can wait a little longer, you can get the same items for much cheaper in the January sales.

If you’re being organised with your sales shopping, it’s a good idea to put all of the items you love in a wish list to check out as soon as the sale hits.

Since the goal of the sales during this time of the year is for brands to clear as much stock as possible, when it’s gone, it’s gone. You won’t have a ‘next time’ with these items.

Will the sales be online?

After the pandemic and substantial growth of the online retail market, all retailers offer their sales online – sometimes even earlier than in stores.

However, if you find an item has sold out online, it’s a great idea to pop into the shops to find out whether it’s still available there.

Which brands have January sales?

Most of our favourite high-street brands have January sales, although most of them don’t advertise it, so if you missed out on Black Friday or want to start your new year shopping.

Here are some of the brands you should look out for:

Zara: Their last January sale offered discounts up to 40% off. We’ll have to wait to see if the same will be applied this year.

COS: COS usually has selected items up to 50% off during its Boxing Day sale.

H&M: Last year, H&M offered discounts of up to 70% off on their apparel, beauty, and homeware. There’s no update yet if it will be the same next year. We’re hoping it still is!

ASOS: ASOS had an exciting January sale last year with discounts of up to 80% Off! Let’s wait and see if they’ll have generous sales next year.
