Remember when Jacquemus’ mini bags were the hottest arm candy in town? Those diddy bags will always hold a special place in my heart, but in 2023 we’re waving goodbye to teeny tiny accessories and hello to colossal holdalls, XXL totes and oversized bags.
I know what you’re thinking: were big bags ever really out of style? Kendall Jenner wore a huge Bottega Veneta shoulder bag back in 2021, while stars Zoe Kravitz, Miley Cyrus, Sydney Sweeney and Hailey Bieber were all pictured wearing YSL’s larger-than-life Icare bag last year.

Sure, I don’t think they’ve been hiding anywhere for too long, but it’s safe to say we’re edging towards more practical choices in 2023 when it comes to our handbags.
I’ve never been someone who can just carry a lipstick and my bank card for a day out. I need my make up, water bottle, notepads, pens, phone charger…the list goes on. With such a huge amount to carry around all day, I need a bag that holds it all.
So I’m leaning into XXL bags, especially after seeing so many glorious iterations of them on the SS23 runways. At Bottega Veneta, we were treated to a slouchy style in their signature ‘intrecciato’ design, while Prada offered a more structured shape with a worn look. At Givenchy, there was a nod to Y2K style with hold-alls covered in buckles.
