Move over tie-dye, gradient print is the new trend taking over this summer.
Granted, it’s not really new. It was a big hit from the late 2000s till the mid-2010s, with so many celebrities wearing the look, including Michelle Obama in a red and black ombre dress in 2008, Taylor Swift in an Ellie Saab turquoise ombre gown at the 2015 Grammys, and Kanye West’s ombre denim shirt and jeans combination he wore back in 2006.

This year it’s coming back, this time in pastel hues and bright colours, as well as a selection of 90s-style grunge pieces. Influencers have been wearing Olivia Rubin’s denim dip dye jacket and jeans, while the designer’s multicoloured satin dresses are another popular piece this summer. Now, ASOS, Weekday and Urban Outfitters are following suit.
If you haven’t already noticed the trend, you soon will. According to Lyst, there’s been an increase of 15% for searches for ‘gradient’ over the past month. Searches for ‘gradient tops,’ meanwhile, shot up 13%, while shoppers have also been looking for gradient sneakers, shirts, and dresses.
Say hello to these new additions to your wardrobe. Here are some of the best gradient print pieces to shop now.
