The resurgence of 70s fashion seems to have come at just the right time amid the easing of movement restrictions. Lockdowns have been lifted and parties have been lined up. If you’ve been looking for something to wear, the brand’s disco-inspired dresses couldn’t be more perfect.
It goes without saying that Zara is pretty much everyone’s go-to for just about any sartorial need because of its vast selection of chic pieces at affordable prices. It honestly seems like they can do no wrong, so when bars and nightclubs started reopening, it was my first port of call.

Personally, I’ve been feeling a little apprehensive about getting dressed up again. After months of dressing down at home, I’m not used to wearing party dresses and heels.

One glimpse of these satin, sequin and disco-inspired pieces was enough to change my mind, however. As Elsa Schiaparelli once said, “In difficult times fashion is always outrageous.”
As mentioned, Zara’s new in section is teeming with 70s-inspired choices — which is apt for the revival of British nightlife, don’t you think? We’re also inching closer to the holidays, which means more parties.
If you’re looking for inspiration, the MTV Music Awards and Met Gala 2021 should provide you with an idea or two. Kacey Musgraves’s bright purple Valentino number at the VMAs is great on the red carpet but also wonderful on the dance floor. There’s also Keke Palmer channeling Diana Ross at the Met Gala — a perfect reference for the ’70s party look.
Whether you want to wear an understated dress or go all-out with the sequins, the brand has it. In fact, it has one of – if not the – best selection on the high street right now.
I did some digging to find the best pieces to save you time next time you’re planning an evening out. There’s a gorgeous simple yet chic satin-effect dress with a knot detail in a lovely aubergine colour, but if you don’t want to veer too far away from comfy clothes, there’s also a satin cami dress in a rich blue colour that still screams party.
If, on the other hand, you want to dive right into disco territory, there’s a sequin mini dress that’s waiting for you.
There are plenty more to choose from. Here’s my edit.
