As one of the biggest fast fashion brands on the planet, Zara is no stranger to criticism. In response to it, the Inditex brand has launched Zara Pre-owned.
There’s no denying that fast fashion is having an impact on the planet. Oxfam report that the production of textiles globally contributes more to climate change than international aviation and shipping combined, while 300,000 tonnes of textile waste ends up in black bins every year.

But there are ways to enjoy fashion without harming the planet, like the new Pre-owned platform from Zara.
If you’re anything like me, there will be pieces from Zara’s old collections that stick with you for years. I bought a cute checkerboard skirt years ago, but couldn’t afford to buy the matching blazer.
Imagine my joy when I spotted it years later in the window of Oxfam Dalston while I was on the bus home from work. I hopped off the bus and snapped it up for £5.
But now it doesn’t need to be down to luck. We have reselling platforms like Depop, eBay and Vinted, but if you’re a die hard Zara fan, you can find plenty of old pieces on their website now (or sell your own).

What is Zara Pre-Owned?
Zara Pre-Owned is a platform that allows you to extend the life of your Zara clothing.
Through the platform, you can buy pre-loved pieces from old Zara collections, book in repairs, sell pre-owned Zara pieces and request a collection for donations.
How do repairs work?
Perhaps my personal favourite element of the new platform, you’re now able to get your clothing repaired.
After requesting a repair, you can either drop your garment off to your local store or drop-off point. It will be shipped off to the repair shop, fixed and returned to you, as good as new.
The prices vary between £3 to have a button replaced, to £15 for a zip replacement.

How to list pre-owned Zara items
The reselling service is a customer to customer service, meaning it’s quick and easy.
To use it, simply login to your Zara account, find the item you’d like to sell from the product catalogue, add a description, price and photos, then when it sells, simply post it within three days.
How do I get paid for reselling?
The sales platform will be via the brand’s website and app.
Customers can post their second-hand items for sale online or through a store. For online resales, the sellers must take pictures of their items and detailed product information from Zara.
Payment transactions will go through the Stripe system. Once a sale is made, the buyer’s information will be passed on to the seller so the goods can be shipped.

Is the Pre-Owned service available outside of the UK?
Unfortunately, the Zara Pre-owned service is only available in the United Kingdom.
The company chose the UK as their test market, and if it’s successful, there’s a chance that this will be available to other markets.
