Over 71 designers joined NYFW Spring/Summer 2024, showcasing a mix of digital and in-person presentations. Starting the 7-day event is Peter Do’s debut show as the newly-installed creative director of Helmut Lang. As seen in his presentation, he paid tribute to the 90s minimalist style that Helmut Lang evokes. It’s all about textures, monochrome, and the designer’s signature tailoring. It was then followed by Prabal Gurung’s runway as well as Proenza Schouler and Kim Shui on the same day. Adding to the list of brands and designers joining NYFW Spring/Summer 2024 are Ulla Johnson, Altuzarra, Anna Sui, Dion Lee, Tory Burch, Gabriela Hearst’s final runway show for Chloe, and more.

What is the American Collections Calendar?

The official chairman of the Council of Fashion Designers of America Tom Ford announced the American Collections Calendar last year.

Like NYFW, The American Collections Calendar will happen twice a year. You’ll see brands showcasing their collections outside of the set dates of NYFW, but they’ll all be in one place.

This does not mean that the fashion industry has abandoned NYFW however. Steven Kolb, chief executive officer of the CFDA, told WWD, ‘The heart of the ‘American Collections Calendar’ will always be New York Fashion Week. This is not about dismissing or abandoning NYFW. NYFW is the heart, it’s the soul, it’s the foundation of this new modern way of thinking which is really reflective of how the business is operating today.’
