Quilted jackets experienced a resurgence at the start of the 2020s — autumn winter 2020 and 2021 were all about them. But will they continue to be popular in 2022?
Aside from these trendy cold-weather pieces, cosy must-haves such as teddy bear jackets and puffer jackets were also everywhere.

This year also saw the rise of colour and patterns — we’re talking crayola brights, maximalist prints and glitz.
It’d be interesting to see all of these still taking up the majority of everyone’s wardrobes in the coming years, but will they actually hold up?

Are quilted jackets in style in 2022?
Here at Wear Next, we encourage everyone to wear whatever makes them feel comfortable and confident no matter what the trends dictate. But I truly believe that quilted jackets will remain in style in 2022.
They’re the right mix of chic and cosy — the perfect combination for cold weather, if you ask me. They come in a lot of varieties too; there’s not just one look with this jacket style. They have what it takes to become a classic.
What jackets are in style in 2022?
Aside from quilted jackets, colourful jackets and playful prints will continue to dominate the trends for 2022.
The trends from 2020 and 2021 were all about the renaissance of playful aesthetics from the ‘70s, ‘90s and ‘00s. But I think we’ll be shifting to even more colourful palettes courtesy of inspiration from the ‘60s and ‘80s.
Where can I wear a quilted jacket?
The quick answer is anywhere! It’s totally up to you. But the look does have quite a cosy feel to it and it does tone down streamlined ensembles. So it’s perfect for dressing up your casuals and dressing down your formals, giving you just the right look.
What are the winter trends for 2022?
The runways of New York, London, Paris and Milan were hosts to different styles from various designers, but there were quite a few pieces I saw more of than others.
Knits were everywhere, and they will continue to be in vogue in 2022. Pleated midi skirts were also on so many shows. If you still have one from years back, hold on to it! As far as dresses go, the mod mini dresses from the ‘60s served as an inspiration for so many collections.
In terms of colours to wear, the Pantone Color Insitute predicts the rise of ‘balanced’ colours. Instead of fuchsia, it’s rose; instead of navy, it’s cornflower blue, and so on.
