The Wardrobe Staple We Always Forget About (But Never Gets Old)

Denim jeans are an undeniable wardrobe staple, easy to throw on when you’re in a rush but not always the most comfortable. There’s a similar item that’s always forgotten about, but is one of the most timeless and long-lasting pieces you can add to your capsule wardrobe and that’s the trusty denim dress.

The pandemic made us embrace anything and everything comfortable, so restrictive jeans were put to one side. If you’re a fan of denim but can’t bear the thought of wearing even relaxed jeans, perhaps a denim dress is the garment you’ve been looking for. I know I have.

If you need convincing, there are plenty of stars who have worn the dress well. Meghan Markle wore a casual yet chic J. Crew denim dress at the 2019 US Open and the item, just like most of the things the former Duchess of Sussex wears, sold out almost immediately. Rihanna is also a fan, while Alexa Chung has worn multiple iterations of the jeans dress in her time.

Of course, most trends start on the catwalk. Designers embraced the look this season, with Valentino, Alexander McQueen, Stella McCartney and Givenchy sending a variety of denim dresses down the SS21 runways, offering plenty of inspiration for the high street.

Now we’re able to socialise, I’ve started looking for viable options for every style and budget.
